Therapy for victims of abuse, violence and sexual assault

Many women, especially those who have been subject to abuse, rape or violence, can experience guilt, blame, anxiety, anger, depression, and judgment from others. Together, we can untangle these experiences, helping you reclaim your agency, reconnect with your voice, and step into a life where abuse is not present.

"Alongside each history of violence and oppression, there runs a parallel history of prudent, creative, and determined resistance." - Dr. Allan Wade

Therapy for Victims of Abuse

What we might attend to

Why did I keep going back?

I often hear from women victims of abuse that they don't understand why they kept going back to their abuser. Together in conversation, we'll unpack your experiences and explore how you were responding to the abuse, even in small covert ways. Even in the most challenging of circumstances, we take small steps to preserve our dignity and protect what's most important to us.

Taking on responsibility for abuse

Guilt, shame, self-blame... these voices can be loud if you are taking on responsibility for ending the abuse. We can get curious together about the responsibility for the abuse, manipulation, tactics, and more.

Judgment from loved ones or systems in place

Unfortunately, many victims have received negative or judgmental responses from others when disclosing their experiences of abuse. I'll meet you where you're at in a judgment-free space. We'll explore responses you've received from the important people in your life, as well as any institutional responses (police, therapists, the legal system, shelters). I will provide a trusting, confidential and open space for you.

Moving forward without abuse in your life

I can offer connections to resources in our community from Oceanside to Long Beach that can help with free legal aid, emergency and transitional shelters, restraining orders, as well as financial programs that are intended to help victims from returning to their abuser. We can also explore what's most important to you in a life without abuse.
