Kids & Families

Families can be beautiful support systems, and sometimes they can also feel complicated, overwhelming, or even painful. If you’re searching for family counseling in Costa Mesa, Ca, or a therapist for your kid (aged 6-12) or teen (13+), you've come to the right place.

Therapy for kids, families & teens

How can family therapy help

Family therapy can help when communication has been tricky, when conflict keeps repeating, or when big life transitions are affecting everyone in the home. Maybe you feel like you’re walking on eggshells with each other, or you’ve lost that sense of warmth and teamwork you once had. Sometimes families come to therapy after a major change like divorce, a move, grief and loss, or when someone in the family is struggling with anxiety, depression, or behavior changes. In-person family counseling in Costa Mesa can be a beautiful way to reconnect and grow with your loved ones.

What does your work look like with kids and teens

I work with kids (6-12) and teens (13+) as they navigate things like a lack of confidence, impulsivity, peer pressure and friendships. Kids and teens are finding themselves in a complicated world, and often a safe, supportive space is what they need to better communicate and cope with life's stressors. When kids and teens are struggling, the whole family often feels it. I provide a supportive, non-judgmental space where kids and teens can talk, play, express themselves, and learn new skills. I also work closely with parents and caregivers, so you feel supported and better equipped to help your child thrive at home.

What can we expect in family therapy or kids/teen sessions?

In family counseling sessions, we’ll talk about what’s working and what’s not, what each family member hopes for, and how to move toward more understanding and connection. Depending on what your family needs, we may meet altogether or in smaller groupings — parents with kids, siblings together, or 1:1 with kids/teens.

Do you offer in-person or online family therapy?

I see adults both in-person sessions at California Family Institute in Costa Mesa at 2900 Bristol St. and telehealth sessions for couples throughout California. If your kid is under the age of 12, I only offer in-person sessions as I find this the most helpful. If you're looking for in-person or remote family counseling in Costa Mesa, you've come to the right place.
