Therapy for Athletes
Athletes think and move throughout the world differently. Often with a lot of ambition, drive, discipline.. which sometimes comes alongside perfectionism, fear of failure, fear of injury and mental blocks. As a former D1 soccer player and captain, as well as playing on the olympic development team for the West Coast of the US, with my formal training as a psychotherapist, I know how to help athletes move through the unique challenges they face.

What we might attend to
"I'm not enjoying my sport like I once was..."
I often hear from athletes that they've lost the joy they once had on the field or environment where they do the sport. Together in conversation, we'll unpack what's changed and what's shown up for you emotionally and mentally getting in the way of your joy for your sport. We'll do this through conversation as well as visualization.
"I'm stuck in a mental block and am not performing as well..."
Perfectionism, critique, a nasty inner dialogue... these voices can be loud and keep you from performing at your best. We can get curious together about how to work with these voices and get you back into a flow state.
"Other people want me to keep playing and I'm so burnt out..."
Unfortunately, many athletes struggle with burnout from intense training schedules and it can feel like you don't have a life outside the sport. This can create a sense of feeling isolated and "not a normal experience" of being a kid, teen, or friend. Often coaches, parents, trainers or future coaches (college coaches...) have different expectations for you than your current capacity. I will provide a trusting, confidential and open space for you to unpack these expectations without them in the room.
"I'm recovering from an injury and I'm so sad to not be able to compete right now.."
As someone who has struggled with injuries across my career as a college athlete and as well now as a surfer, I know very well how injuries can take away a huge part of our identity. When we can't do what we love, there can be this void, as well we can miss the rush and happiness that come from competing. We'll also address sadness, anger, trauma and anything else that has come up with the injury.
